This event has ended.

This exhibition, a collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) features Pamela Council, Sara Jimenez, Sondra Perry and Patrice Renee Washington. Through sculpture, photography, digital media and performance, these four New York-based women artists transform common domestic and cosmetic objects to expand the possibilities of self-representation. The work generates critical dialogue around the lived realities of women of color in the visual art world.

Pamela Council is interested in creating sculptural works that deconstruct human relationships with mass produced objects. Sondra Perry produces video installations and Minimalist sculptures from foam rollers, track weaves, and pancakes to merge Minimalist aesthetics with her personal vernacular. Through an exploration of feminized crafts like knitting and baking, Patrice Renee Washington examines the construction of racial and gender identity in European pastoral paintings and African American popular culture. Sara Jimenez creates durational sculptures and drawings from salt crystals and rust residue. Her work expresses the intangibility of memory, ancestral lineage and her negotiation of her multiracial and transnational identities.
