This event has ended.

The Kravets/Wehby Gallery announces the opening of Game Over: Walking through the Graveyard Whistling, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Michael Bevilacqua.

Michael Bevilacqua debuts a new series of paintings that depict the intersection of geometric abstraction and the advent of computer graphics. Drawing his inspiration from two sources, the Dogon Tribe of Mali and Kraftwerk’s 3D performance.

The Kanaga mask, worn during the Dogon ceremony honoring the dead are the simplest geometric forms. Like a minimal painting using deep space as a backdrop rather than white. Bevilacqua’s new paintings make the connection between seemingly foreign spiritual rituals and contemporary culture. The Kanaga dance to celebrate death and the artist’s favorite part of a video game, “Game Over!!”
