Casa de Costa presents The Dark Parade by David Armstrong. This exhibition showcases otherworldly sculptures alongside new photographic works by the legendary American artist. Known for his exquisite photography, The Dark Parade presents a new view of Armstrong’s artistic activity. The sculptures evoke the early assemblages by German Dadaist Raoul Hausmann, the bricolage cabinets by American Surrealist Joseph Cornell, and the work of German artist Isa Genzken. Arms trong’s sculptural pieces are made with photographs and paintings, myriad antiques, pop culture ephemera, mirrors, broken glass, and toys. “David’s blinding success as a photographer has obscured a deeper appreciation of his artistic vision and his virtu osity,” said Jason Costa, President and Founder of Casa de Costa. “ The Dark Parade gives us a brand new perspective on David’s work and influence. It’s incredibly fresh. And it’s an opportunity to be up close and see the artist’s hand in the work. The carr iage house is the ideal place for the installation. It’s intimate and I’m looking forward to seeing how people respond.” The Dark Parade was first exhibited, in part, at CONTEXT|Art Miami in December 2013, and now is expanded at Casa de Costa’s Upper East Side site - specific installation. Tucked behind a discreet apartment building on East 61 st Street, The Dark Parade is installed in a hidden 19 th century neoclassical carriage house. The exhibition allows visitors to have an intimate and personal experience with the artwork.
