This event has ended.

The exhibition, CULTURE CAPSULES, explores human perceptions of place that is shaped by internal influences such as memory, desire, and the senses as well as by external, cultural forces such as history and the media. Cultural Capsules is an international exhibition featuring artworks that tell the human stories of urban societies, which is often shadowed by the glittering electronic lights of modern cities.

In anthropology and geography, a cultural sphere refers to aspects of culture associated with formal, functional, or vernacular culture regions. Macro spheres that reach into different regions throughout, for instance the Mediterranean, and micro ethnic enclaves such as Crown Heights — are indicative of the wide range of applications of cultural spheres. The meaning of cultural spheres is taking on increased significance in the information age. It is crucial for us to begin taking concrete steps to raise awareness, and to cultivate a better understanding of diversity in the context of these cultural spheres around the world.

Cultural Capsules is a diversity initiative that reflects global culture in the context of human stories. This international art and design exhibition focuses on the compelling and timely notion of artist and designer as storytellers. It is a celebration of the variety of unique cultures around the globe. Culture Capsules is being curated by C.J. Yeh, Assistant Chair for Communication Design in FIT.
