Mary DeVincentis “One Hundred Not Famous Views”

A series of monotypes inspired by meditative walks in Prospect Park paying tribute to the tradition of the Romantic landscape and to Hiroshige’s woodcut series, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo.
Where many of Hiroshige’s prints depicted panoramic views of mountain vistas and large expanses of land and water, I have sought to visually capture the everyday, the ordinary and intimate, seeking, as Baudelaire suggests is the aim of the artist, “to distill the eternal from the transitory.”
Mary DeVincentis received her BFA summa cum laude from Maryland College of Art, and a post-graduate diploma in advanced from St. Martin’s College of Art in London. Her work has been exhibited at the International Print Center, White Columns, the Brooklyn Museum and most recently included in exhibitions at Rush Arts/Curate NYC 2013, the Jeffrey Leder Gallery, Queens College Art and the Openings Collective at the Church of St. Paul.
