In the first such event in the U.S., Yumi Katsura, the leader in bridal fashion in Japan, will present her special collection of evening and cocktail dresses using Japanese traditional yuzen. Entitled, “Yuzen Today,” the contemporary yuzen dresses will be exhibited. While creating her cutting edge bridal dresses, Katsura has always been fascinated by Japan’s own traditional beauty. Yuzen is a traditional Japanese paste-resist dyeing technique with marvelous colors and patterns used for kimono. Katsura admires the yuzen designs created throughout history by the hands of masters that have stood the test of time. Katsura intends to add her contemporary interpretation and inkjet printing technology to this precious heritage and pass those wonderful traditions to the next generation, and spread their appeal worldwide.
