In his first solo exhibition in New York, Julien Levy presents a collection of new work at Garis & Hahn: four short films, a series of photographs shot in Asia, his Tiny Pretty Things series of “microphotographs”, portraits so small they require a magnifying glass to view, and a limited edition booklet that functions as an exhibition catalog and also a piece in the show. Central to Without You I’m Nothing are Levy’s intimate and arresting works that lay bare the network of relationships–artist and muse, artist and collector, performer and audience–that in Levy’s estimation, “make” the artist, and in whose absence, would leave him nothing.
