This event has ended.

Parisian-born, Brooklyn based artist Prune Nourry brings her army of 116 daughters to NYC. She spent 1.5 years in China sculpting the life size daughters. The figures are based on eight real girls in China, whose education is being supported through this project. The show opened in Shanghai, moved to Paris and Zurich, and now makes its only US stop. At the end of the year, the daughters will be brought back to China and buried until 2030 — at which time Prune will unearth them, creating a modern archaeological site.

Terracotta Daughters is a the artist’s reflection on gender preference and the demographical imbalance in China. It is a natural continuation of Nourry’s career-long exploration of gender and human selection.
