This event has ended.

MARC STRAUS presents a solo exhibition of new work by German artist Ulf Puder. This will be the artist’s second solo show with the gallery.

Puder’s paintings depict haunting environments filled with abandoned architecture and other symbols of
human industrialization. With unexpected color choices; pink and yellow patches of roof, blue or purple
walls, this world seems at once both familiar and other-worldly. His landscapes are both constructed and
deconstructed; a collapse of representation, creating a sense of a looming apocalypse. Dark skies and
simmering ground seem wondrous and beautiful: a calm before a storm. Puder (b. 1958) and Neo Rauch
graduated in 1990 from the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (HGB) Leipzig as a Meisterschüler of
Prof. Bernhard Heisig and are the two leading painters of their generation to emerge from Leipzig. Puder
especially has had enormous influence on a generation of younger painters both in Germany (Matthias
Weischer) as well as Eastern and Central Europe.

Ulf Puder is represented by Galerie Jochen Hempel in Germany and MARC STRAUS in NY. His work is
in major public and private collections worldwide, and he has exhibited at prestigious institutions, most
recently a solo exhibition Städtische Galerie, Wolfsburg and another at Stadtmuseum, Oldenburg. He has
further been exhibited at Moderna Museet, Stockholm; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Museum Ludwig,
Budapest; Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, New York; Camden Art Centre, London; Museum de
Paviljoens, Almere, Netherlands; Kunsthaus Dresden; and Museo Municipal de Malaga. He was
highlighted in the Prague Biennale 2. Ulf Puder lives and works in Leipzig, Germany.
