Andy Mister “Dark Ambient”
Brian Morris Gallery
This event has ended.
Andy Mister’s hyper-realistic, high-contrast carbon drawings will be featured in the upstairs project space. Subjects range in context but share a simultaneously dark and inviting intensity of form. Mister is interested in the dichotomy between the printed and digital image, which makes the viewer question the type of media employed, such as in Hall of Mirrors. The drawing, borrowed from a photo of JFK’s swearing-in ceremony, decontexualizes the historical event from the aesthetic of the image itself.
Andy Mister is an artist and writer. He has been awarded residencies from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Lyons Wier Gallery. In 2015 he will be an artist in residence at the Bemis Center in Omaha, NE. His first book, Liner Notes, was published by Station Hill. An artist book, Heroes & Villains, is forthcoming from The Cultural Society. He lives and works in Brooklyn.
