This event has ended.

Onishi Gallery announces two contemporary ceramic exhibitions to be held concurrently from September 6th through the 20th on the occasion of Asia Week New York Fall 2014. One of the exhibitions will be a solo show featuring the works of Mizuno Mineo and the second will showcase ceramic pieces by various Japanese artists.

Mizuno is recognized internationally as a leader in contemporary ceramics. Unlike other ceramists who may draw inspiration from more earthly tones, Mizuno uses the full spectrum of color found in nature. Over the past decade his works display a preoccupation with water, an element that constantly changes and refuses to be grasped or captured. Mizuno currently resides in New York and many of his sculptures are owned by private individuals as well as by major museums including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.

The group show consists of masterpieces by Living National Treasures of Japan and by other important Japanese ceramic artists. Highlighted will be works by Imaizumi Imaemon XIV who recently became the youngest ceramic artist (51 years old) to be designated a Living National Treasure for his exceptional work in enamel painted porcelain. Other Living National Treasures who will be included in the show are Sakaida Kakiemon XIV, Yoshita Minori, Isezaki Jun and Tokuda Yasokichi III. They each possess unique techniques and aesthetic sensibilities which are observed beautifully in their works.
