This event has ended.

Accompanying and complimenting The 26th Annual Student Exhibition will be small solo shows by artists Vandana Jain and Melissa Godoy Nieto, set up on the outside walls of the gallery at BRIC House. These two Brooklyn-based emerging artists use symbolic languages to examine individuality, culture, history, and the social fabric.

Vandana Jain is interested in examining the influence of corporate and consumer culture on modern life, contrasting hand-made and machine; individual and conglomerate. Her work often uses well-known corporate logos, slogans, wrappers, and packaging, placing these elements into quasi-religious contexts and/or creating ritualistic spaces.

Melissa Godoy Nieto is a multidisciplinary Mexican artist and designer, now based in Brooklyn, whose work incorporates hand-made interactions, colors, and textures in a contemporary frame using alternative techniques and structures, often referencing the vibrant palette, dynamic and hand crafted aesthetic of Mexican culture.
