Ryoko Maehana, originally from Sapporo in a small town located in the northern part of Japan. She grew up surrounded by the nature with heavy snow in the wintertime’s. She became interested in the fields of arts when she was a child, since her father who was a professional oil painter, which influenced her to follow his footsteps. While she was attending to high school she also has attended Musashino School of Arts to study oil paintings and drawings to brush up her skills to understand the basics of art. Maehana decided to come to New York in 2006 instead of transferring to the school in Tokyo, Japan to challenge herself in a different environment. While she was attending Hunter College to continue with her education in the field of arts, she fell in love with the arts of ceramics. All of Maehana’s art works has warmth and comfort because of the love that she received from her mother whom knitted garments in the cold winter times. Due to that pasts all her pieces shows the reflection of her mothers love that she has received.
