This event has ended.

Born in 1950 in Tokyo, Japan, Satoru Kakitsubo studied the medallic arts in Rome, Italy, between 1971 and 1974. He attended Rome National Medal Art School (Italian Mint, Zecca di Stato, Istituto Polografica e Zecca dello Stato) and studied under sculptor Francesco Giannone. Later he studied at the Academy of Art under Pericle Fazzini. Upon returning to Tokyo, Satoru continued working in art with his family, and exhibiting his medals.

Satoru was the youngest of the four sons of Kazuo Kakitsubo (1908-1983). The elder Kakitsubo opened the Tokyo-based private mint, Shoei, in 1964, which was operated by three sons–Masaharu (2nd), Eishirou (3rd) and Satoru (4th). The firstborn son, Yoshiaki, was a rocket engineer who worked for an industrial company.
