This event has ended.

New materials and their physicality. How they feel, how they smell, how they sound, the combinations of dissimilar elements, both rough and delicate. The alchemy of its making, the new meaning the materials take by association with one another and their relationship to the human body, to the environment and how they were placed and combined. This formed the basis of Keith Sonnier’s early bodies of work and a practice he continues carrying on in his art.

This show will include a File piece from 1968 made with lead and wood, a Stock-prop piece from 2010 made of flocking and polystyrene (a panel with holes to fit the arms legs and head of a dancer, based on medieval stocks for physical public punishments, created for a ballet by Molissa Fenley) and a stone piece from 2011 made of steel, hydrocal, flocking and pigments.

Keith Sonnier was born in 1941 in Louisiana. He lives and works in New York City.
