This event has ended.

Obsessed with the dirty, used and brown world of cardboard box imagery, Conrad Carlson scours the streets of New York City in search of this urban debris. He especially prefers poorly printed, off-register and warped lettering and designs to integrate into his art. The deficiency of the original cardboard renders each of Carlson’s pieces uniquely nuanced. It is beautiful distressed garbage that is re-contextualized and abstracted beyond recognition, yielding a world of confusing symbolism, awkward creatures and mesmerizing design via collage and sculpture.

Self-taught artist Conrad Carlson produces a myriad of objects mostly out of garbage – static and kinetic, ride-able and crash-able, legal and illegal. Whether it’s mutant bikes with his Black Label Bicycle Club, odd weirdo graffiti with his vandal friends, art and installations for galleries and other white boxes, or a dance party in an abandoned building it is all in the name of fun and making the world more interesting. He has shown in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, San Jose, Paris, Venice, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Conrad dropped out of college to pursue a creative life, landed in Brooklyn 14 years ago and is also known as Dj Dirtyfinger, ass motivator general. This is his first solo show in New York City.
