This event has ended.

In the current exhibition, the artist will install forty-six sections of his ongoing work Biography, 2008-2013, a monumental wall-mounted sculpture approximately eighty-one feet long. The thousands of various everyday items that comprise this work, ranging from paper and twine to electrical wires and rubber tires, are tightly packed into intricate layers, creating an integrated whole. This sprawling work is divided into smaller individual sections, which when viewed alone, constitute a complex work of art in themselves and mark a specific and significant point in the continuum. This exhibition will feature sections 95-49, as a continuation of the 2011 exhibition at Marlborough Chelsea where sections 48-1 were debuted. Together, all ninety-five sections span 156 feet.

Siegel created Biography from right to left, therefore the viewer, usually approaching the piece from left to right, encounters the most recent sections first. The work continuously changes form and composition, evoking an array of physical and conceptual influences. While most art is carefully designed ahead of time, Biography will continue to grow with no predetermined endpoint, much like the process of evolution.

Two smaller mixed media sculptures, How It Happens I and How It Happens II will also be included in the exhibition. The titles of these sculptures refer to the artist’s working process, specifically how he generates form and texture. Measuring three feet in diameter, these works resemble the cross section of a large tree trunk, with an outer layer of colorful spiky protuberances and an interior consisting of finely layered and condensed sheets of paper and other materials, calling to mind wood or stone.
