The work of these exceptionally inventive young photographers is distinctive in an environment where digital photography has become so universally accessible. They produce compelling, innovative imagery employing many aspects of traditional darkroom photographic processes some times combined with digital imagery and collage. Maria Estevez constructs personal narratives through evocative experimental media; Louis Riso, experiments with historic chemical techniques such as Wet Plate Collodion; Amanda Savinon’s personal narratives are altered in the development and printing process; Orlando Urena constructs Abstract Photograms, Christina Fermin, Polaroid Inkblots, and Melvin Guzman images are collages from street signage.
