In the project gallery we will hold a solo show of selected works by Belgian based, Australian artist Catherine Nelson. Like Massard, Nelson conjures up rich and detailed evocations of nature. Unlike his tableaux, her compositions are constructed with digital processes from images she shoots in nature and meticulously constructs, sourcing and assembling thousands of details. Nelson uses a repetitive globe form and creates seasonal images of the planet as if we are viewing the earth from a satellite. Wildlife and nature are represented in rich and fantastic ways to convey each environ simultaneously as both boundless and isolated. Trained as a painter Nelson worked on films including Moulin Rouge and Harry Potter which contributed to her ability to express fantastic forms, before committing herself to her own art practice. She has exhibited internationally and this is her first New York showing.
