RE:QUEST Model Management and Clic Gallery present the group show “by RE:QUEST,” curated by Diego Cortez.

Since being founded in the spring of 2000, RE:QUEST Model Management has established a reputation as a leading worldwide model management agency, continually pushing the boundaries of the fashion industry with an innovative approach to model development. RE:QUEST counts many accomplished artists among its model roster, including David Agbodji, Cole Mohr, David Alexander Flinn, Eliza Douglas, Mateus Lages, Tara Sereda, Rivers Plasketes, and Ira Chernova, all of whom will have new work featured in the upcoming group show “by RE:QUEST,” opening May 12th from 6-8PM and running through May 26, 2013, at Clic Gallery, 255 Centre Street, New York.

“by RE:QUEST” is curated by Diego Cortez, the internationally-renowned independent curator whose seminal 1981 show “New York/New Wave” at P.S. 1 helped introduce Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring to the art world and has since become known as the “Armory Show of the Eighties.” Alongside the models, the show will also feature work by a number of artists who work with RE:QUEST, including Stefani Pappas, Samuel Zakuto, Marco Torres, and Melissa Ling.

The collected work will range from ethereal photography and candid drawings to energetic collages. “Breaking the stereotype of the superficiality of fashion and their mannequins, this exhibition reveals artistic and conceptual depths,” says Cortez. The exhibition will be accompanied by a limited-edition zine, by RE:QUEST, featuring exclusive work in addition to the art featured in the exhibition, with a run of one thousand copies, available at Clic along with other retail locations.

“by RE:QUEST” marks the gallery début of Noel, who says of the exhibition, “Along with Diego Cortez and RE:QUEST Model Management, I am pleased to present this first installation of works by a group of leading young RE:QUEST models and other artists we intend to nurture and develop. From creating their art in the streets, their apartments and studios, and oftentimes the modeling agency itself, all the artists offer the viewer both an intricate and bold look into their individual worlds, which span the divides between photography, drawing, and painting.”

“by RE:QUEST” serves as yet another creative and powerful redefinition of the role of a modeling agency, acting as a firm example of the support RE:QUEST provides for their models and collaborators. Noel favors a comparison of this uniquely edgy and contemporary approach to a “tattooed arm with a Rolex on it,” as evinced by her common maxim that “RE:QUEST will continue to be an agency of firsts.”
