Robert Cumming “Red Carpet”
Janet Borden
This event has ended.
Robert Cumming’s paparazzi pictures from the seventies of movie openings and award ceremonies are full of pizazz, glee and glamour. Cumming freely admits that he gained access to the red carpet “through devious means.”
At the time, he was consumed with an interest in “anything Hollywood.” Entertainment Tonight, The Daily Mail, and other contemporary outlets for celebrity doings, have all highlighted this work for its freshness.
An excitement for the activities, and something less salacious was at work at that time. Cumming’s images (now digitized) capture the adoration of stardom that never ceases to fascinate.
Who wouldn’t want to see Cher decked out in Native American garb, attending not her own, but someone else’s premiere?
These are very small editions, of four signed and numbered sets. Some individual images are available.
ROBERT CUMMING was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1943. He currently lives in Whately, Massachusetts.
