This event has ended.

Lynette Lombard’s recent paintings of rural southern Spain and Illinois embrace baroque curvilinear rhythms. The theme of night captures simplified moonlit forms that evoke mysterious presences. Each painting, whether day or night, incorporates the idiosyncratic geometries and chromatic light of a place. She paints the elemental forces moving through mountains, valleys and skies that swell and squeeze, sink and rise.

Lombard’s painting goes through a catharsis of losing and finding what matters. Each color has a weight and pulls the image together with a specific light. She wants to privilege the sensuous process of landscape painting. Paint and brush or hand feel like muscles that caress, wrap, attack and knead the image, conjuring a physical and bodily life force.

This is Lynette Lombard’s third solo show as a member of the Bowery Gallery. She received her MFA from Yale University, her B.A. Honors from Goldsmiths’ College of Art University of London and attended the New York Studio School for two years. Lombard is Full Professor of Art at Knox College in Galesburg, IL She received the Philip Green Wright Lombard Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1998. Recent solo shows include: Mountains and the Sea, Museo de Arte Moderno, Mojacar, Spain, Recent Paintings at the Rider University Art Gallery, NJ and at the Firebarn Gallery, Grand Haven, MI. She will have an upcoming show at La Barquilla Gallery, Sorbas,Spain.
