Jean-Marie Haessle has presented his work in many exhibitions, both personal and in group shows.
In recent years he had a major show at the Hillwood Art Museum, Long Island NY 2012, Whitelabs Gallery, Milan, Italy, Chantal Bamberger Galerie, Strasbourg, France, DavidRichard Contemporary, Santa Fe, NM, Art Chicago Sepecial Exhibition, IL, Wada GarouTokyo, Japan, Korea University Museum Seoul 2014. Heassle is represented in many collections in the US, Europe, Korea & Japan. Haessle’s paintings, generally work intensive, are in the steps of the “all over” mode favored by some artist of the American expressionist school. But, where as the major artists from this period are characterized by a certain violence of gesture and/or/ the colors. Haessle’s work is firmly anchored in his sense of colors inherited from his native France, which he combines with the liberty of his surface impasto, a robust brush work as well as his preference for large size format to arrive at a strong visual impact. The results, tend often toward a great chromatic force as in the series: “Nirvana” where the countless variation of the color red saturates the total canvas surface, punctuated by, either lighter colors (yellow, blue or green) or otherwise darker ones, which pierces the surface rendered with great energy. Other canvas present a great variety of hues often melted together by a tense brush work. Seen from a distance the surface tends to create some kind of visual vibration accompanied by an ambiguity as which is the dominant color of the work. In short, Haessle has gambled on two fronts: One where he position himself as definitively an American artist, but on the other hand, he has kept true to his roots and claims at the same time his French background.
