This event has ended.

Inspired both by nature and the human arts of music and literature, Michael R. Grine’s abstract paintings are an experiment with color and the possibilities of space and perspective. Vivid colors are either thrown or mixed right on the canvas, resulting in bright configurations of shape and form. Grine then uses centrifugal force in combination with gravity to distort those lines and contours, layering translucent or opaque paints on the canvas in set or random patterns. In terms of composition, he masterfully uses perspective to draw the viewer into his imagined worlds, lending a depth to the overall effect that speaks to the limitless potential of space and time. Working with several media, including oils, acrylics, tempera, computers, metal and found objects, Grine pushes his art into previously unexplored territories that call into question our own constructed confines of place and temporal boundaries. What Grine achieves is an emotional response of wonder and purpose, caught in swirls of color reverberating with the rhythm and movement of a seemingly boundless dance.
