Jane Swavely’s recent work is a continuation of the investigation of abstract painting, referencing the landscape as a structural element. This emphasis on the landscape allows for an improvisation that extracts dynamic tension without losing what occupies the moment between what is seen and what is familiar.
Swavely’s work manages to hover somewhere between abstraction and place, and rests in between dream and reality.
