This event has ended.

Through the skilled use of his knife work, Kim creates works that play with light and shadows, conveying the philosophical nature of mans embrace in the modern world.

Wan Kim specializes in mixed media works that create a unity between background and content—an effort to combine the aspects of the known and unknown in our world. His specialty lies in his knife work, the traces of which he regards as a “collection of scars,” connecting his works with his own emotional being. He emphasizes the multidimensional facets of his paintings by creating planes in angular shapes and juxtaposes them in ways to create contrast and interest. There is a sense of profound uniqueness in his pieces in which he is only able to describe as emanating from the blending of roughness with tranquility, a contrast between the background and foreground. Yet despite the complexities and dimensionalities of his works, there is an underlying simplicity that creates a calming ambiance.
