This event has ended.

NOoSPHERE Arts presents an exhibition of 14 Norwegian artists working in 3D, organized in collaboration with the National Association of Norwegian Sculptors (NBF). The participating sculptors were selected by an internal jury of professional peers comprised of Åsil Bøthun, Gisle Harr, and Reidar Kraugerud. In the jurors’ opinion, this selection represents a cross-section of contemporary Norwegian sculpture, in terms of technique, content and the participants’ age distribution.

For one, Pierre Lionel Matte has contributed to promoting the understanding that European and Norwegian culture are socially constructed and in flux. In We Are a Nation from 2000 (shown below), he presented baseball bats topped with miniature models of traditional Norwegian homes. His objective was to show that Norwegian identity at the time was based on the nostalgic notion of rural villages, while urban culture was considered less genuinely Norwegian. (From a text by Bjørn Hatterud, published in Gradually Approaching the City: Art and Modern-day Norway, catalog accompanying the inaugural art exhibition now on view in the VIP Terminal of Oslo Airport.)
