This event has ended.

The Elizabeth Harris Gallery presents in nature, an exhibition of new paintings by Sandy Walker. This will be the artist’s first one-person exhibition with the gallery and his first exhibition of his paintings in New York since 1980 when he last exhibited at Grace Borgenicht Gallery. A fully illustrated 16-page catalog accompanies the exhibition.
In a text for the catalog the artist writes:

“My work is often about place and more recently about the human in nature. For many years I have spent significant periods of time in the Stehekin Valley of Washington State, a place where my wife’s family bought a cabin when she was still very young. Stehekin has influenced me deeply, and yet I do not believe that my work is as much descriptive of the place as it is about its spirit and about place as a pathway to a deeper understanding of nature, its themes, its essences. I am also deeply influenced by the figure in movement and by my long association with dance. I continue to try to understand the human’s relationship to nature and the edge where nature becomes human and human is nature. This show is of work mostly from the past two years”.
