This event has ended.

Baruch College presents the exhibition Women in Jazz: Photographs by Lena Adasheva, Enid Farber, and Fran Kaufman at the Mishkin Gallery.

The Mishkin Gallery will join the College's Milt Hinton Jazz Perspectives concert series to celebrate the accomplishments of women in jazz, both the performers and their photographers. The Mishkin exhibition will emphasize the great female stars of classic jazz and performers who are transforming jazz music for contemporary audiences such as Cassandra Wilson, a two-time Grammy award winner, who incorporates folk, country, and blues into her jazz repertoire.

The exhibit will feature the work of three talented photographers: Enid Farber, Fran Kaufman, and Lena Adasheva.

Enid Farber has been photographing musicians since 1979. She was the first of her generation to receive the Jazz Journalist Association Award for Excellence in Jazz Photography and the Best Photo of the Year in 2002.

Fran Kaufman works primarily with musicians. She captured images of the jazz world for the past 15 years, following musicians as they perform onstage, backstage and in the studio.

Lena Adasheva, a Russian-born photographer, won the Jazz Journalist Association Award for Best Photo in 2010. She highlights the spirit of jazz improvisation in her photographs during live events, allowing the viewer to experience the musical moment through the visual image.
Collectively, the work of these three photographers constitutes an important sociological overview, depicting the life of jazz musicians in the second half of the 20th century into the beginning of the 21st.
