This event has ended.

Imprints is a solo exhibition by sculptor Judith Modrak that loosely ties together two bodies of her visually charged work. Both series explore interior landscapes from psychological and neurological perspectives. Her painted plaster cast figures illuminate areas of the psyche that are revealed during unguarded moments or hidden in the recesses of our brains.

The Dendrites Series investigates memories and how they influence our lives. The current belief is that certain memories and experiences create distinct neural pathways. The sculptures in this series examine the vessels in which these memories are stored to unmask larger themes of aging, anxiety and longing.

The Standing Series delves into “in-between states” both emotionally and physically. The naked figures seem to be a in a state of fright, agitation or expectancy – on the verge of a break-through or break-down. Startlingly poignant, her figures demand attention from the viewer with their vulnerability and pathos.

Judith Modrak is a New York-based artist whose work has been shown throughout the United States. She earned her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and has received awards from Creative Capital and the National Association of Women Artists, most recently the Margo Harris Hammerschlag gold medal for sculpture in 2013. Modrak has exhibited in gallery and museum shows, including the Chelsea Art Museum, Palm Beach Art Armory, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, ABC No Rio and the Trenton Art Museum. She is in numerous private collections and represented by Midday Gallery in Englewood, New Jersey.
