Howard Scott Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings, by Berlin based artist Rolf Behm, October 24th - November 30th, 2013. This is Behm’s third solo exhibition in New York.

The main characteristics of Behm’s work is color, light and space, he employs a combination of acrylic paint and oil - in thin and transparent layers, one above the other in illuminating abstract forms and giving depth to the surface, carefully treading the fault line between landscape and abstraction.

The paintings in this exhibition, contain paintings all oil and acrylic on canvas, ranging in size from 12 x 16 inches to 63 x 79 inches. Behm’s chimera forms typically dominates the work. The surfaces are further activated by strong contrasting colors and incidental markings and taut delineation.

Born in Karlshure, Germany in 1952, the artist studied with the renowned German artist, Markus Lupertz, 1973-77. In 1993 he was invited to take part at a workshop in Macei , Brazil for German and Brazilian artists, the experience awakened him to the remarkable beauties of that country. Captivated by the tropical atmosphere and lighted richness of coloration in the landscape, he stayed on for several months longer, met and married his wife. They now spend at least four months a year there.

Behm has had many solo exhibitions with Galerie Springer in Berlin, Heike Kurtize in Vienna and in 2006 - a ten year survey of his work in Koblenz (at Evangelischesstiff) and AM-Galeria, Sao Paolo, Brazil.
