This event has ended.

In his work, Ebben explores the inner self, both his and his viewers’, by creating new forms of communication and shared experiences. Interested in process, accumulation and narrative, Ebben has created a personal visual vocabulary to express his open-ended plots that require his viewers to complete the story, allowing multiple versions of each narrative to develop and disintegrate. Ebben employs many different mediums from a 30-foot graphite drawing inspired by Walt Whitman’s poem “The Sleepers” a painting mounted on wheels and a sound installation that permeates the gallery. Also included are sculptures constructed from found objects, linen, and Mylar. These are a few mediums Ebben employs in his search for answers.

Dean Ebben was raised in Minnesota. He lives in New York City where he has lived for the last fourteen years.

Most recently Ebben had an exhibition, Bound by Silence, at SUNY Cortland, Cortland, NY and Who Will Protect You, at Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He is currently preparing for an exhibition, Silence Unbound, curated by Heather Powell at The Center for Book Arts, New York, NY. He works in many different mediums from papermaking and bookmaking to video installation, sculpture, and performance. He chooses the best medium to convey his ideas.

He earned his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied sculpture and papermaking, and earned his MFA with distinction from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York where he studied video and installation.
