The water paintings by Sydney Drum explore the intersections of painting, digital media, and photography. Some elements are hand-painted (a labor-intensive, low-tech method); others use digital technology to explore how it has changed the way we view the world around us (an emphatically high-tech process). The well-known critic, Gerrit Henry, in an Art in America review of her work, wrote that Drum mixes up all kinds of esthetic impulses, and handles color with unswerving confidence.
