Adam Wissing "Interstitials"
109 gallery
This event has ended.
For this show, Adam Wissing has lined the walls of the gallery with several large-scale black-and-white photographs, and then hung from the ceiling a series of digital projectors, which illuminate and add undulating light and color spectra to the images. The resultant appearance is that of a color photograph—though containing hues impossible by any other means—completing itself before our eyes, refreshing itself anew in every instant.
Comprised mostly of abstracted landscapes found on his own interstate travels, the images toe the line of plausibility, as each photo carves out its own reality in a never-settling realm of color. This enthralling technique offers a unique viewing experience in which the subject matter remains fixed, but the context and tone evolve constantly.
Occupying a space somewhere between the real and impossible, between photography and video, between personal journey and process, "Interstitials" is a world onto itself, a world that rests on that very divide of unknowing.
