Mary Boone Gallery presents an exhibition of paintings by ANDREW MASULLO. The show, which will open at the gallery’s Chelsea location on 2 March, has been organized in cooperation with Feature Inc., New York. Using simple shapes and vibrant colors, Masullo makes pushy, nonobjective paintings that frequently play with figure/ground relationships. The artist begins each canvas without a preconceived idea of how it will develop; it may take him several months to several years to complete a work. Masullo has long been known as a painter’s painter, whose deceptively straightforward-appearing compositions involve complex interplays of color, form, and texture. The artist counts among his influences Joseph Cornell and Forrest Bess, for the way their works’ humility and intimate scale belie their monumentality.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1957, Masullo attended Rutgers University and graduated with a BA in Studio Art.
