This event has ended.

Maccarone presents Magical Ramón and the Five Bar Blues - Alex Hubbard’s second solo exhibition with the gallery.

Hubbard presents seven new “bent paintings”, pigmented urethane casts of a single trash painting that the artist contorts into sculpture via an intricate heating process involving a home-made oven. Scattered throughout the gallery, some are sandwiched between or strung along walls, while others act more modestly as floor sculpture.

Hubbard latest video piece, a collaged tableau of simultaneous, multi-directional actions against a limitless backdrop, features the movements and sounds of the local sensation Magical Ramón. Five glib portrayals of current painting, framed in gold and lit by cast abalone-shell sconces, accompany this installation.

Finally Hubbard’s newest sculptural series, “the bars”, utilize painted shipping crates custom furnished into true–to-life, one-person portable drinking bars. These works were assembled and remain in Maccarone’s Morton Street space.

Alex Hubbard is from Oregon and lives and works in New York. Most recent solo exhibitions include “Bent Paintings (why horses paint)” Galerie Eva Presenhuber (2012) and “Alex Hubbard, Hammer Projects”, The Hammer Museum (2012).
