Joan Winter "Invisible Light"
J. Cacciola Gallery
This event has ended.
Joan Winter’s work mediates between presence and absence, between light and air. Utilizing various media…sculpture, large-scale prints and painting, Winter’s work strives to capture the intangible essence of existence through an investigation of space, time and light. These works while ephemeral and elusive are invested with energy and register an intense physical presence.
Japanese architecture has been a constant source of inspiration in Winter’s work. Ambi-flux, the soft ground etching, is influenced by her studies of circular, spiral stairwells expressing movement thru space in multiple level Japanese residences. With the vertical sculpture tower, Memory, the interplay of absence and presence is critical. Formed from a column of translucent cast resin segments, suggesting an ancient unfolded umbrella, a void central cylinder allows a column of light to illuminate and dissipate at the same time.
