This event has ended.

The New York Academy of Art presents From Beijing, an exhibition of artwork by the faculty of Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA).

Renowned for alumni Zhang Huan, Liu Xiaodong, Zhang Dali and others, CAFA is considered China’s preeminent art school. This exhibition marks the first time many of the prominent faculty members have been exhibited in New York City.

Most of the faculty at CAFA are alumni themselves and have established themselves as major international artists. The works on display will represent the years of rigorous training and creative experimentation that reflect the demanding education offered at both institutions. Everything from open form and gestural figurative works to the most exacting renderings of the human form are on view.

Over the past two years, the New York Academy of Art and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing have aligned in a dynamic relationship based upon their shared mission to emphasize training in progressive figuration. What began in the summer of 2011 as a residency program for four New York students in Beijing has flourished into a multi-tiered collaboration with students, alumni and faculty of both institutions experiencing each other’s culture firsthand through exhibitions, residencies, and faculty exchange.
