Mike Weiss Gallery presents a new exhibition of paintings by Belgian artist Jan De Vliegher. Although referencing Koi ponds for this new body of work, he is working abstractly taking his inspiration from Color Field paintings and the bravado of Abstract Expressionism. Known for his paintings of treasuries and glassware, this exuberant painter is interested in the line that intersects the object and abstraction and these large scale paintings become more than just a ‘Koi Pond’.
Jan De Vliegher lives and works in Bruges, Belgium. The artist received his Master of Fine Arts degree at the Hoger Instituut voor Beeldende Kunsten Sint-Lucas Ghent, in Belgium, in 1986. He has exhibited extensively in Europe including Knokke, Belgium; Venice, Italy; Stockholm, Sweden and Berlin, Germany.
