This event has ended.

As the artist’s third solo show with the gallery, this exhibition will feature eight exceptional large-scale photographs from Starkey’s latest body of work. Quietly contemplative yet intensely evocative, these new works build on the artist's exploration of the complex physical and psychological connections between the individual and his or her everyday surroundings. Collaborating directly with her female subjects, Starkey renders carefully composed and exquisitely textured scenes that capture women in private moments of introspection, instances that tap into the personal and collective memories of her viewers, recalling familiar events and emotions. In this newest group of photographs, she examines convergences of the interior and exterior worlds specifically through the perspective of the mother figure, evoking poignant narratives of protection, struggle, love, and hope.

Born in Belfast in 1971, Starkey currently lives and works in London. Recent exhibitions include the artist's solo retrospective, Hannah Starkey: Twenty-Nine Pictures, at the Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, UK, 2011; Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, UK, 2011 (solo); Borrowed Memories: Exhibition from the Collection of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Luan Gallery, Athlone, Ireland, 2012-2013 (group); 2011 Seoul Photo Festival, Seoul Museum of Art, South Korea (group). In 2000, Starkey presented a major solo exhibition at The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin.
