“Text Out of Context” Exhibition
Hewitt Gallery of Art, Marymount Manhattan College
This event has ended.
When Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press in the mid-1400s, he revolutionized the process of sharing the written word. Producing yet another new spin to share the language of books, Marymount Manhattan College will exhibit “Text Out of Context,” a visual tribute to literacy in unexpected forms.
With the book’s metamorphosis from the stone tablet to the finely crafted illuminated manuscript to a mere mass produced carrier of content, Text Out of Context gives 14 contemporary artists a meaningful and creative way to reinvent the book, taking it off the shelf and on to the wall -- moveable, transformative and surprising once again.
