ChaeHyun Oh “Rumination”

Able Fine Art NY Gallery

poster for ChaeHyun Oh “Rumination”

This event has ended.

The artist carves small granite figurines and faces that resemble “artifacts from an archeological dig” due to their roughness and distressed appearance. He tends to carve small whimsical characters—Buddha heads and icons, “cartoonish birds,” overtly happy animals, plump out-of-place naked women—intending to relate the relationship between sex, spirituality, and the righteousness of nature. Oh pours emotion into each of his sculptures through carved facial expressions and striking poses. Even so, his sculptures are largely imaginative, with features only partially defined as to designate their physical being. Yet there is a sense of enlightment portrayed in all of his figures as Oh envisions ordinary objects with a sense of miraculous power and energy unearthed from within.
