The exhibition includes two videos Paloma and Please Touch and a concurrent screening of her new video Chroma. Her work invites communication between the senses through imagery and sound. The three separate works question our ideas of perception through a cast of characters, including a flamenco dancer, a blind woman, and a piano tuner.

Paloma was filmed with the desire to turn the architecture of a mausoleum into a big drum for its inhabitant. A single flamenco dancer creates her own music using her hands and feet that resonate upon the stone. Paloma suggests an impassioned posturing around death and loss that is in sync with the urgency and fervor of flamenco.

In the second work, Please Touch, a blind woman is led through a "touch tour" of a Rodin sculpture, The Martyr. As the camera follows her hands slowly caressing the figurative sculpture, we experience sight through touch, indulging in the nuance of the surface. We are voyeurs in her sensate experience as two bodies meet.

On April 26th, Padovano will screen her new video Chroma, followed by a discussion. Chroma brings us into the subconscious of a blind piano tuner who has synesthesia (or joined senses) in which note and color are involuntarily entwined in the mind's eye. As he pulls and pushes each note into tune, we are led through a perceptual journey that writes the memoir of his sighted childhood, where vivid colors and musical vibrations react against the void of his vision. The moving, stuttering, reflection of the full moon on the water guides us through the notes vibration and reminds us of the watery substance of our vision.

Rosemarie Padovano is a New York based video artist, sculptor, and photographer. Padovano's recent exhibitions and screenings include Anthology Film Archive and PS122 (New York), Prosjektrom Normanns (Norway), and Galerie de l'UQAM (Montreal). She has attended residencies through the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Padovano received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and her BFA from Parsons School of Design.
