Anna Betbeze Exhibition
Kate Werble Gallery
This event has ended.
Anna Betbeze’s second solo show at Kate Werble Gallery is comprised of a collection of works eliciting the desire to touch: a giant pillow, large scale tapestries made from color saturated bath towels, and repurposed bathrobes.
Betbeze expands her material and color language while continuing to conjure the thin membrane that separates the interior and the exterior, the body and space. Her Flokati works engage destructive processes as a mode of material transformation, using the object’s resistance to generate new forms. In her new works, the terry cloth soaks up the color, over-saturating the material to reach its capacity.
The aqueous color is poured on to absorbent cloth creating soft passages that move from the floral, verdant, and sun-bleached to the residual, toxic, and soiled. The new materials intensify Betbeze’s focus on the interaction of the visual and the tactile.
