This exhibition features artworks by Carl Andre, Larry Bell, Robert Barry, Fred Sandback, Richard Tuttle, and Jong Oh in which the artists have manipulated the most basic of materials to create objects that prompt continuing threads of philosophical ponderings. These are simple constructions that generate complex ideas. Through exact proportions, passages of tautness or slack, perfect counterweights and balances, and a refusal to include any more than the most essential features, these artists have made artworks exponentially more complicated than the sum of their parts. They reduce the components included to the bare minimum, drawing back the excess and revealing only the most salient points for examination. These objects function as poems on the nature of the physical world. They are like atomic models: objects that demonstrate that which is normally unseen or ignored. Case studies that bring to light the beauty, mystery, know-ability, and incomprehensibility at the edge of daily perception. X-rays of the seams of the universe.
