This event has ended.

Lu Magnus presents Curio Logic, Emily Noelle Lambert’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring works on paper that span six years of her practice, from 2007 to 2013. These pieces, both intimate and diaristic, provide a window into Lambert’s artistic process of gathering, layering, piling, and re-purposing to reveal the conceptual building blocks of her work, both sculptural and two-dimensional.

Curio Logic references early pictorial representations that preceded written language, while conjuring notions of the curio shelf – domestic organization housing traces of life. Building with layers of imagery, color and form, whether by pencil, paintbrush, or chisel, Lambert develops a personal vocabulary that explores relationships between the physical and ephemeral. The heavy surfaces and collaging in these works on paper and their precarious and playful qualities offer a glimpse into the constructed collections of Lambert’s impressions, both lived and imagined.

In 2009-2012, Lambert began a practice of reclaiming parts of work from the past decade, including remnants of works by her students, pieces of exquisite corpse drawings, handmade paper scraps, and pages from old sketchbooks. Similarly, her ongoing series of monoprints created at the Lower East Side Printshop have been reworked and drawn back into, creating a sense of history and fleeting image. Curio Logic is the first exhibition exclusively of Lambert’s works on paper, showcasing the psychic bric-a-brac of her process.
