This event has ended.

Tally Beck Contemporary presents the first solo exhibition in New York for Korean artist Sijae Byun, “Vaginascope”.

The show will feature approximately 48 paintings, drawings and sculptures inspired by Daoism and the artist’s own unique philosophy of genetic connections between the natural world, architecture and humanity. Tally Beck Contemporary will also present a three-part series of educational programming on the subject of Korean art during the run of the exhibition.

Sijae Byun is a Korean multi-media artist whose installation art and sculptures have been exhibited extensively throughout Korea and the United States. She has had multiple solo exhibitions in Seoul and has been featured in group exhibitions in the New York area. On November 1, she will open her solo exhibition at the Korean Embassy in Washington, DC.

Byun works with a variety of media, including painting, video, and installation. Her installations focus on personal and social experiences, with an emphasis on inner conflict. By creating interactive work, she fabricates a space in which viewers engage with their surroundings and each other. Combining juxtaposing elements such natural and artificial environments, she allows for a better understanding of relationships in contrasting settings.
