The Time Equities Inc. Art-in-Buildings program presents Jayson Keeling’s video Omi – Pictures.
Jayson Keeling works in video, photography, performance, and related media to challenge perspectives on gender, sexuality, and race. His interdisciplinary practice borrows from his early career as a photographer and film director of fashion, film, music, and porn. This background is evident in Keeling’s exacting emphasis on light and composition. In Omi – Pictures, a nuanced, diary-like record of Keeling’s 2012 residency at Omi International Arts Center, the images retain the focus of Keeling’s studio work. The 70-plus images in the video run chronologically, slowly appearing and fading like a home slideshow. Revealing personal moments, beautiful landscapes, and surrealist images, the video leaves the viewer feeling like a fly on the wall. Omi Pictures is homage to Omi, an intimate picture of the artist’s engagement with fellow artists, and a glimpse into the mysterious world of residency programs.
