This event has ended.

Kerry Schuss presents new work by Robert Moskowitz (b.1935). Each of Moskowitz’s black and white paintings on canvas or paper pictures the silhouette of a single object: a bottle, a bat, a hat, an anchor and compass. Including only what is necessary and nothing more, the paintings are formally austere, physically sensuous and poetically provocative.

This is Robert Moskowitz’s third solo exhibition with Kerry Schuss, which follows last year’s Envelope paintings from 1962.

Moskowitz’s paintings of common objects were included in the New Realists show at Sidney Janis (1962). He had also been included in William Seitz’s seminal Assemblage show at the Museum of Modern Art in [1961]. Moskowitz was featured in New Image Painting at The Whitney Museum of Art in 1978. His 1989 mid career retrospective originated at the Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC and toured to the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art, CA and The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY. Moskowitz has had numerous one-person exhibitions at galleries including Leo Castelli Gallery, Blum Helman Gallery, New York, Daniel Weinberg Gallery, San Francisco, Margo Leavin Gallery, Los Angeles, Lawrence Markey, San Antonio, Peter Blum, New York, and D’Amelio Terras, New York.

Robert Moskowitz’s work is numerous museum collections, including The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
