This event has ended.

Abravana Nova Yorkque is a hybrid between installation, performance, and video created by Brazilian artist Ricardo de
Castro and to be held in two stages. First it is an installation designed to receive the action of the viewer on the opening
day of the exhibition. The viewer becomes engaged as part of the work space and used as transforming agents. In the
second phase, a video recording made on the opening day that tracked the behavior of the viewer becomes part of the
exhibition itself.

Curated by Tim Goossens, the work of this exhibition is the junction of two plans, floor and wall, that define an area where various elements are arranged such as stairs, stools, hooks, allowing different forms of relationships between the body and the space. Established by this spatiality, some objects (including fabrics, pieces of wood, scraps of paper and adhesive, makeup, and clothing) will instigate a participatory action, and provide research as a condition for the completion of the video work itself, through the handling of the objects by the public and the artist. Both space and volumes, as well as clothing and part of the objects are painted in green, creating a Chroma key effect.

Just as in previous Abravana performances, the whole process will be directed and recorded by de Castro, and the captured images will be used to make a video, highlighting the transformative character of the work. The result is the creation of an image that reveals the abstract and magical geometry that composes our relationships. The dilution of the bodies in the frenzy of colors provides a figurative redesign - the manipulation of objects in Chroma key green gives rise to the creation of new bodies, a constant relation between action and reaction, energy and magic.

Ricardo Castro lives and works in São Paulo. He studied architecture at University Mackenzie in 1995 and fine arts at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in 2000. He is the founder of Art Abravanista. In his artistic research, he develops installations, videos, and sculptures that propose experiments aimed at the displacement of the individual; therefore, opening new mental spaces, renewal of everyday attitudes, destruction of patterns, and the redesign of free thinking. The works have a relational character, and in some cases, take place in public spaces in order to share with more people the energy produced with the performances.
